Description

This document provides a best-practice recommendation for capturing commonly used types of journal abstracts and multiple abstracts using JATS XML. These recommendations refer to abstracts relating to the entire article. Abstracts appearing in other objects within the article (e.g. ) are considered to be out of scope. Capture of meeting abstracts is considered to be out of scope for these recommendations.

The following recommendation is for JATS v 1.3 and backward. Differences between the Journal Publishing and Archiving DTDs are noted within the recommendations as applicable.
